Toronto -- Renowned choral director Jean Ashworth Bartle is leaving the Toronto Children's Chorus at the end of next season, after 28 years at the helm. "I think it's time to look at life a little differently, and slow down a little," said the 59-year-old Bartle.
Since she founded the TCC in 1978, it has grown into a six-choir organization that engages 300 school-aged choristers each year and tours regularly.
Bartle also said that she was influenced by the impending departure of artistic manager Heather Wood, her "close partner" at the TCC for the past 18 years. The two women gave their resignations to the board the same day, Bartle said.
Marie Houghton, a member of the TCC board, confirmed that Bartle will conduct all TCC concerts next year, and continue to plan the 2007-2008 season.
